📰 DTC & eCommerce News

Overstock's Major Rebrand - Overstock.com is swapping its name for Bed Bath & Beyond in the U.S and Canada, tapping into the latter's sturdy brand recognition, despite its recent bankruptcy. Overstock purchased the retailer's intellectual property for $21.5M, which includes domain names, customer lists, and mobile apps. Overstock plans to operate solely under the Bed Bath & Beyond name within the coming months, shedding its "liquidator" image and aligning with its focus on quality home products. Full article here.

Monster Energy’s Power Play to Acquire Bang Energy - Monster Energy is poised to gulp down rival Bang Energy in a deal worth up to $362M. The fizz is building, but the Federal Trade Commission is taking a sip before giving it the green light. Will Monster use Bang’s brand to fortify its market presence, or is this a strategy to quash competition? The energy drink arena awaits! Find out more here and here.

Google's Cart Gets Lighter - Google is hitting the backspace on its shopping marketplace. Remember those "Add to cart" buttons in your search results? Well, they're packing up and leaving town. Google realized they're better at helping you find products than actually selling them. In a bold declaration, Google’s former commerce president, Bill Ready, said they’re not trying to be a retailer or marketplace. Google will revert to being a stellar shopping search engine, linking you directly to merchants’ websites. So, you’ll still find cool products, but Google won't be your cashier. More insights available here.

Haus' Revival - Haus, the low-alcohol aperitif brand that wooed consumers with its trendy concoctions, is back and ready to serve! The Naked Market, well known for brands like Rob’s Backstage Popcorn, has acquired Haus after it shut down last year when a $10M funding round fell apart. Focused on uniquely positioned brands, The Naked Market is set to mix Haus's high-quality ingredients and transparency into their robust portfolio. Cheers to that! Read the full article here.
