The 70-20-10 Rule that Will Save Your Brand
To hedge against a bear market, it may be best for DTC brands to stop giving into trends and focus on staples. Goodlife, a men's fashion brand, is leading by example. Its CEO tells Glossy they follow the 70-20-10 rule. 70% of inventory is its hero product (t-shirts), 20% are products people buy but not considered core to the brand, and 10% is experimental, trend-driven inventory. How can a 10% product move up to the 20%? It must sell well & have high demand. Goodlife's methodology seems to be working. Their repeat purchase rate is 60% & return rate 8% vs industry standard of 16%. While Goodlife started out as DTC, they also embrace retail and are fans of Nordstrom. For more info on Goodlife's methodology, read here.
Pinterest Upgrades eCommerce Tools
Pinterest gave its e-commerce tools a facelift & added several new features like Product Tagging for Pins, Shop Tabs, and API for Shopping. The goal is for these features to help merchants create engaging shopping experiences for users. Pinterest has been making serious efforts to up its e-commerce operations since "89% of weekly Pinners use Pinterest for inspiration in their path to purchase," says Jeremy King (SVP of Engineering at Pinterest). They also recently appointed Bill Ready, former President of Commerce & Payments at Google, as their CEO. Click here for a full rundown on how Pinterest's new shopping feature works
Why The Jonas Brothers Are Everywhere
We all heard about Joe Jonas and Ohza introducing the Fizzy Sangria, but now Nick Jonas and his wife Priyanka Chopra are making consumer headlines. The couple invested an undisclosed amount in luxury, skiwear brand Perfect Moment. They'll also support the brand through advertising, designing co-collections, & Insta posts (Nick + Priyanka = 113M followers). Jonas and Chopra have been active investors independently. Jonas is invested in Snackpass and Chopra in OLIPOP, but Perfect Moment is their first fashion investment as a couple.
